A raised wall panel with openings and recesses: stoneware, porcelain, oxide, glazes

Measures approximately: H 34 x W 32.5 x D 6 cm

Handmade in the UK

My shrines are independent of any religious attachment.  They symbolise the passage of life. Temporarily berthed to a moment in their entropic journey.

This journey is intended to continue beyond fabrication.  Candles lit in its apertures will allow carbon to evolve the ontogenesis of the artwork. This elaborating patination is to be embraced. Your movements around the piece will bias the flame and influence its disruption to the work. You will, in turn, directly impact the developing aesthetic as time passes.

Shadow is also intended to be a brushstroke, as fundamental to the artwork as the physical form itself. Light, obstructed by the clay, casts shadows within it's openings, which become a part of the piece.  They bring it alive and disrupt its anchoring, making it continuously dynamic.
