What's included:

- ACROSS THIS FULL DAY POTTERY COURSE, YOU will learn one of the core techniques of handbuilding, TO AN ADVANCED LEVEL: the slab building technique

- A 3 piece CARAFE AND CUP set of your creation

- tuition, EXHIBITION STANDARD materials, TOOLS FOR USE ON THE DAY and firing costs

- LUNCH and refreshments PROVIDED. sample menu: roasted sweet potato and freekEh salad with a cranberry and almond dressing, spinach, pomegranate and lightly spiced seeds, served with fougasse, olive oil and balsamic.

- The studio is located 5 minutes from central Farnham, Surrey.

What TO EXPECT:

You will learn the fundamentals of slab building and SPEND THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY MAKING YOUR two CUPs.  I will also talk to you individually about your thoughts re the surface design for YOUR CARAFE AND CUP SET.  You will THEN prepare your slabs for YOUR CARAFE, in order that they will be leather hard and therefore ready to use during THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY.

AFTER LUNCH, YOU WILL construct your CARAFE, WHERE WE WILL BUILD ON THE SKILLS YOU LEARNT IN THE MORNING AND ADVANCE THEM FOR THIS MORE COMPLEX STRUCTURE.  ONCE BUILT, IT’S TIME TO LET YOUR CREATIVITY RUN FREE, TO MAKE YOUR SET UNIQUELY YOURS AND COMPLIMENT YOUR LIVING SPACE, WITH ETCHING, CARVING, PAINTING OR ANY OTHER IDEAS YOU HAVE THAT ARE ATTAINABLE ON THE DAY. Should you choose to paint your CARAFE AND CUPS with underglazes, I HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF COLOURS FOR YOU TO WORK WITH. DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF YOUR COLOUR WORK, THIS MAY CARRY A MINIMAL SURCHARGE.

AT THE END OF THE WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR CARAFE AND CUPS WITH ME TO PROCESS - I WILL DRY THEM, BISQUE FIRE, SAND, wax, GLAZE AND GLAZE FIRE THEM. IN CONJUNCTION WITH any SURFACE DECORATION DESIGNS YOU HAVE, You will be able to choose between a matt white, ivory gloss and/or a transparent glaze IN WHICH I WILL finish your three PIECES.
